French film '35 Rhums' [35 Shots of Rum]

You can watch the French film 35 Rhums [35 Shots of Rum] for free on the RTE Culture website. See here for more.

The 2008 film is directed by Claire Denis and stars Alex Descas, Mati Diop, Nicole Dogue and Grégoire Colin. It tells the story of a father daughter relationship.

35 Rhums trailer.

Review of the film: "The story is told with the eyes" - Roger Ebert website:
"Here is a movie about four people who have known one another for a long time, and how their relationships shift in a way that was slow in the preparation. The film makes us care for them, and so our attention is held. I've seen films where superheroes shift alliances, and I only yawned. What matters is not the scope of a story, it's the depth."

Painted electricity boxes in Cork

Have you seen the painted electricity boxes around Cork city?

They were painted by different local groups such as Mad About Cork and People's Republic of Cork. They come in all different artistic styles and show famous people or aspects of local history and culture. They also reflect the multicultural nature of Cork with some in other languages apart from English and Irish.

Here are some examples of the different ones you can see around the city and near suburbs with some info on who / what is featured in the artwork. What's your favourite?
